About the Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway

Our Mission: Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway work to protect, promote, and expand the Oklawaha Greenway.

The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway is a group of local organizations and area residents who recognize that the Oklawaha Greenway:

The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway promote the use of the Greenway and help with its improvement and maintenance. The Friends are also currently working to connect the Greenway to Blue Ridge Community College. This would connect Berkeley Mills Park, Patton Park, Sullivan Park and Jackson Park to the college.

The Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway had its origins in the Green Infrastructure Committee of ECO (now MountainTrue). Representatives from the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, who were actively working on area bike plans at the time, joined forces with ECO to focus attention on extending the Greenway from Jackson Park to Blue Ridge Community College. Since 2015 Conserving Carolina (formerly Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy), the League of Women Voters of Henderson County and the Friends of Ecusta Trail have joined with MountainTrue and the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club to form the Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway.

The Friends extend special thanks to Rare Bird Creative for our logo and to Green Light Ink for the illustration; also to Jock Aplin for the photograph in the home page masthead.
